Pre-Care, After-Care, & Contraindications

Great results start with good prep — and your skin will thank you for it.

 

Follow these tips to protect, prep, and prolong your glow for every treatment at Donna Lee Beauty.

Facials & Advanced Exfoliation
(Classic facials • Nano infusion • Microneedling • Microdermabrasion • Dermaplaning)

Contraindications:

  • Active cold sores, open cuts, or skin infection

  • Recent sunburn or tanning (within 72 hrs)

  • Accutane or isotretinoin use within 6 months

  • Recent Botox/filler/cosmetic surgery (< 2 weeks)

  • Pregnancy/nursing — for microneedling or strong peels

  • Blood-thinning medication or bleeding disorder

  • Diabetes, eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea flare-ups (consult first)

 

Pre-Care:

  • Stop Retin-A, AHAs/BHAs, exfoliants 48–72 hrs before.

  • No self-tanner or waxing 5 days before.

  • Hydrate well and arrive makeup-free.

  • Microneedling: avoid aspirin/alcohol 24 hrs before.

 

After-Care:

  • Avoid touching your face 24 hrs.

  • No makeup 12–24 hrs.

  • Skip heat, workouts, steam 48 hrs.

  • Gentle cleanser + SPF 30+ daily.

  • Microneedling: no exfoliants/actives 7 days; mild redness normal.

  • Dermaplaning/Microderm: avoid exfoliation 3 days; hydrate generously.

Chemical Peels

Contraindications:

  • Accutane use within 6 months

  • Active cold sores/open wounds/severe acne flare

  • Pregnancy/nursing (for most medium peels)

  • Sunburn or recent waxing (7 days)

  • Laser or strong exfoliation (2 weeks)

  • Allergy to aspirin/salicylic acid or specific ingredients

  • History of PIH or keloid scarring

 

Pre-Care:

  • Stop retinoids and exfoliants 5–7 days before.

  • Avoid sun and waxing 1 week prior.

  • Use Lira Clinical prep products if advised.

  • Arrive with clean skin.

After-Care:

  • Do not pick or peel flaking skin.

  • No makeup, heat, or sweat 3–5 days.

  • Gentle cleanser, moisturizer, SPF 30+.

  • Avoid actives/exfoliants 1 week.

  • Expect mild flaking 2–5 days post.

Waxing Services

Contraindications:

  • Retin-A, Differin, or tretinoin use within 7 days

  • Accutane within 6 months

  • Sunburn, rash, or open cuts

  • Varicose veins or circulatory issues

  • Recent chemical peel (7 days)

  • Diabetes or infection on site

 

Pre-Care:

  • Hair ¼–½ inch long (≈ 2–3 weeks growth).

  • Gently exfoliate 24 hrs before.

  • Avoid lotions, oils, self-tanner same day.

  • Skip caffeine before appointment.

 

After-Care:

  • Avoid heat, sweat, tight clothing 24 hrs.

  • No touching/scratching area.

  • Begin gentle exfoliation after 48–72 hrs.

  • Apply soothing oil (Bushbalm or Agent 88).

  • Use SPF on exposed skin.

Brow Services
(Waxing • Tinting • Lamination)

Contraindications:

  • Open cuts, irritation, or infection near brows

  • Recent microblading or permanent makeup (< 6 weeks)

  • Accutane or topical retinoids within 6 months

  • Allergies to hair dye, tints, or adhesives

  • Skin conditions such as eczema or dermatitis on brow area

  • Active sunburn or recent peel (within 7 days)

Pre-Care:

  • Avoid brow growth serums 24 hrs prior.

  • Discontinue retinol or exfoliants 5 days before.

  • Arrive with clean, makeup-free brows.

  • No tanning or sweating right before your service.

 

After-Care:

  • Keep brows dry for 24 hrs (no steam, sweat, or makeup).

  • Avoid touching or brushing brows for the first day.

  • No retinols, AHAs, or peels for 5 days post-service.

  • For lamination: keep brows hydrated with nourishing oil daily.

  • For tinting: avoid cleansers or exfoliants on brows for 48 hrs.

BODY CONTOURING
(RF • Cavitation • Laser Lipo)

Contraindications:

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

  • Pacemaker or metal implants

  • Active cancer or chemotherapy

  • Uncontrolled hypertension or heart disease

  • Epilepsy (cavitation caution)

  • DVT, bleeding disorders, or anticoagulant therapy

  • Open wounds or hernia in the treatment area

  • Recent surgery (< 3 months)

 

Pre-Care:

  • Drink 1–2 liters of water the day before and the day of your session.

  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and heavy meals 24 hours before treatment.

  • No lotion, oil, or self-tanner on the treatment area.

  • Eat light and avoid meals 2 hours before your session — a small snack is okay up to 1 hour prior.

  • Shower and gently exfoliate the treatment area the morning of your appointment.

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing.

After-Care:

  • Continue drinking 2–3 liters of water daily for 72 hours after treatment.

  • Stick to clean eating for the next 3 days — low-fat, low-carb meals with lean protein, veggies, and whole grains.

  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and processed foods for at least 3 days post-treatment.

  • Wait 6–8 hours before showering or bathing.

  • Do light cardio or movement (20+ minutes) within 24 hours to boost metabolism and lymphatic drainage.

  • A lymphatic drainage massage is highly encouraged for faster detox and improved circulation.

 

To Maximize Your Results:

Your results depend on consistency, hydration, and giving your body the right support between sessions.

​

  • Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Aim for 2–3 liters of water per day throughout your series — the more water you drink, the better your body flushes out dissolved fat cells and toxins.

  • Fuel your glow. Maintain a clean, balanced diet. Avoid refined sugar, fried foods, and processed carbs.

  • Move your body. Light exercise helps your lymphatic system eliminate fat waste more efficiently.

  • Compression helps sculpt. Bring a waist trainer, Spanx, or compression garment to wear for 2–3 hours post-treatment to help “mold” and hold your new contour.

  • Stay consistent. For best results, book a series of 6–8 sessions, spaced one week apart, and maintain healthy habits between visits.

  • Rest & relax. Give your body the calm space it needs to do its work — this is your time to unwind, reset, and focus on you.
